Dr. Walker receives a Fulbright award to study geoglyphs in the Amazon

Rob Walker received a Fulbright Scholar Award to conduct fieldwork in Brazil over the next two years. His research finds and documents ancient Amazonian earthworks, commonly known as geoglyphs. Over 1,200 geoglyphs have been recently discovered across the southern rim of Amazonia. These enigmatic archaeological sites are large geometric shapes constructed with ditches and connected by roads. With help from Brazilian colleagues and students, Rob uses machine learning, LiDAR, and surveys to uncover the full geographic distribution of all geoglyphs, explore various interpretations concerning their significance, and develop interactive tools to share results and promote the preservation of these important sites.

Congrats Dr. Walker!
