Gail LawrenceGail Lawrence

Hi! I am Gail Lawrence, Administrative Assistant for the Department of Anthropology here at Mizzou. My duties are the same as most administrative assistants, working with the 15 faculty in this department; preparing class syllabus, copy work, phones, correspondence, arrange meetings, departmental events, etc. The most important and enjoyable part of my job is the opportunity to work with you the student and potential students. Each student entering or considering entering Mizzou's Department of Anthropology, should be in contact with me at some point. I can answer most of your basic questions, send application information, tell you about registration, deadlines, faculty members, how to find places or people on campus, what department to contact for housing, if our students are looking for room mates, etc. If you are interested in Mizzou and Anthropology, the easiest thing to do is start with me.

I can be reached at 573-882-4731 or by email at gail@missouri.edu. If you have questions or just need to speak to someone, feel free to contact me. Hope to hear from you soon.

Mary PorterMary Porter

Hello, I'm Mary Porter, Administrative Associate of the Department of Anthropology. I began working on campus in 1969 and in this department in 1971. I started out in Gail's position which was clerk-typist at that time. My main duty is assisting the department chair. This includes maintaining all department accounts and all grants, processing all appointment papers for faculty, staff, and students, assisting with preparation of grant proposals, developing course schedules, and many other duties. I truly enjoy working with all the students—they keep me young while in the office and Shelby, my granddaughter, and Cody, my grandson, keep me young at home (both are in the picture with me).

One of my favorite events is Leader's Weekend when some of the alumni return to Columbia for a visit—hope you can attend the next one. Other weekends are spent in our cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks with my husband David, Brian and Jeannie (son and daughter-in-law), the grandchildren, and friends, where I relax, fish, play, eat and drink. Please contact me if you have questions, need information, etc., that I may be able to help you with.
