Professor Emeritus
Ph.D., Harvard University, 1954

My research interests focus on tools, tool use, and material culture of non-industrial peoples, including Euro-Americans of the 19th century and before. Graduate teaching includes technology and Old World ethnography. I have given guidance to students in a variety of investigations relating to technology, material culture, and related economic and social aspects of behavior.
